Abstract:
This paper studied the effects of paclobutrazol (PBZ) on reactive oxygen metabolism and lipid peroxidation in
Dioscorea zingiberensis Wright leaves, the results show that PBZ decreased O
2 production rate by 14.5%, stimulated a 35.9, 15.2 and 25.0% increase in the activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT) and puaiacol peroxidase (POD), promoted the synthesis of soluble protein and chlorophylls by 13.9 and 12.3%, and reduced malondialdehyde (MDA) content by 44.9% under normal growth condition. But both the decreased activities of SOD, CAT and POD as well as soluble protein and chlorophylls contents and the production of O
2- and MDA were maintained to a lower degree than their corresponding controls after exposure to drought stress.
