SOME DEVELOPMENTAL FEATURES OF OVULE IN PENNISETUM SQUAMULATUM,WITH EMPHASIS ON EMBELLUM

Microstructural study was made on ovule development in Pennisetum squamulatum,and several prominent developmental and structural features were observed as follows:(1) Some nucellar cells become specialized by enlarging,elongating,and protruding into the micropylar canal,forming embellum.(2) There occurs a highly developed prietal nucellar tissue,which is derived from nucellar epidermis.(3) The micropyle is formed with inner integuments and partial outer integument.
