THE DISTRIBUTION OF NA+ AND CL- IN WHEAT LEAF MESOPHYLL CELLS

  • The distribution of Na+ and Cl- in wheat leaf mesophyll cells from plants grown in the solution culture with 200m tool NaCl was studied by means of electron microscopy and X-ray microanalysis.Under electron microscope more antimonate precipitates were fcund deposited in the plazmalemma, cell walls, triangular schizogenous spaces, nucleus, mitochondria and chloroplastids of wheat leaf mesophyll cells from the plants grown in the solution culture with NaCl than from those grown in double-distilled water. The X-ray microanalysis showed that Cl- had occurred largely in the plazmalemma, cell walls and triangular schizogenous spaces, and Na+ hadn't been detected in these sites by means of X-ray microanalysis. The results suggested that fewer Na+ reached wheat leaves than Cl- did.The ultrastructure of chloroplastids and mitochondriain mesophyllous cells of wheat grown in the solution culture with 200m tool NaCl was damaged. In addition, the growth of wheat plants was checked in the solution of NaCl.
